Sliding Scale Philophy
“Come, come, whoever you are.
Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving.
It doesn't matter.
Ours is not a caravan of despair.
Come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times.
Come, yet again , come , come.”
We at Peace Out Loud see the Bay Area as a place with incredible abundance and wealth; we acknowledge that this wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few to the detriment of others. We acknowledge that we live on stolen land, where Indigenous, Black and Brown bodies are at risk for their lives, with constricted access to housing, education and health services. Our team is composed of black, brown, poor and queer people. Some of us have had the experience of having to chose between food or a music class for their child.
We would like Peace Out Loud to be a place where these inequalities traversing the Bay Area are discontinued, not perpetuated. We intend to bridge these inequalities through redistribution of wealth and resources, We believe this to be the way to create the conditions for loving and resilient communities, where liberation is a reality.
We are dedicated to the principle of self-determination, and refuse to capitulate to the non-profit industrial complex that would have us prove our poverty in order to be worthy of services. We know that each of us has contributions to make. These contributions come in the form of energy, time and money, amongst others. We ask that all contribute as they can; we are invested in solidarity, not charity, and we know that worth is not determined by the amount in our bank accounts. Please pay what you can and come whether you can pay or not.
In this spirit, our payment model is self-determined sliding scale with no one turned away for lack of funds.
With Love and Solidarity
The Peace Out Loud team
